Where are the Top South Carolina Vacation Spots?
So summer is just around the corner, kids are out of school, and you have some vacation time you will soon be using, where in South Carolina do you go? In this article, we will go over the Top South Carolina Family Vacation spots and why we chose these locations.
How we classify ‘Family Vacation Spots’ in this article is simple, we base our recommendations on the fun factor for both kids and adults. We know that the adults want to have a good time too so we try to pick towns that have a lot to offer for the entire family.
1. Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach has been known for many years as one of the top vacation towns in the United States, and in 2018 not much has changed. Myrtle Beach comes in at number 1 for the FUN FACTOR. If you and the family cant find something to do here, you will not find much to do anywhere. With hundreds of attractions and a wide range of places to stay, it will be tough to beat for the family that has to keep moving on vacation. Something to keep in mind, check the calendar when planning your Myrtle Beach vacation to avoid extremely large crowds such as both Bike Weeks, this is not always the best time to have a family vacation in Myrtle Beach.
2. Hilton Head Island
Hilton Head Island comes in at number 2 on our list. With beautiful beaches, ocean parks, miles of bike trails, and kid-friendly attractions, it’s a perfect family vacation spot. We all have heard how Hilton Head has some of the best golf courses anywhere in the country, but this Island offers much more than just playing golf. How about renting a bike for the day and ride on the endless bike trails around the island. Just about anything on the island is accessible by bike. There are also many watersports to enjoy that can be found at Hilton Head Harbor or Shelter Cove Marina. If you want a fun and educational experience for both the kids and adults, head over to the Coastal Discovery Museum. Hilton Head is much more laid back and relaxed than Myrtle Beach, but still offers endless opportunities for FUN!
3. Folly Beach
Folly Beach has always been a popular vacation destination in South Carolina, and with Charleston and Isle of Palms close by, you have so many options for FUN! The little town of Folly Beach has it’s own style and charm separate from Charleston, with great restaurants, an amazing pier, and nice shops, it is sure to leave a lasting impression on your family vacation. Folly beach offers boat tours, kayaking and canoeing, beach parks, and more.
You may be thinking, wait a minute, that’s not a beach town, and if you are then you are correct. Greenville, SC made our list because we happen to think Greenville is one of the most charming cities in the state. Not only does it offer charm, but is packed full of activities for the family. Greenville’s downtown has some of the best restaurants in the state and many of them have been featured in national food and travel magazines. In addition to the charm and great food, you are only minutes away from gorgeous lakes and state parks for the outdoor adventurers. There are many parks, rivers, lakes, theaters, festivals, and fun to keep you busy.
5. Edisto Island
Edisto Island may not have as much to do as our 1 through 4 picks, but if you want peace and relaxation, mixed with outdoor activities and beautiful scenery, this may be the place for your family. Although attractions are limited, the Edisto Island Serpentarium is always a big hit with the kids! If reptiles are not your thing, go for a bike ride around the island and visit the Edisto Beach state park. Edisto is not for everyone, if you want the action-packed vacation, it may be a better choice to go with one of the above choices, but if you and the family want to get away from it all and still be near the beach, this could be the island for you.
